Physics (BA) - Physics Education

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Physics prepares students interested in physics and planning to enter professional schools in business, education, journalism, law, and medicine, and for students desiring a strong background in physical science but with career objectives in other areas. This degree-specific program combines the rigorous requirements of the Physics B.A. program with content-specific pedagogy to prepare students interested in teaching physics at the secondary level. The Physics Education major offers a degree in the discipline with multiple field experiences in diverse classroom settings and culminates in a full-time teaching internship. Upon graduation from the program, students are endorsed for Full Teacher Certification by the State of Florida’s Department of Education.

Political Science

The major in Political Science provides the skills of political analysis and a disciplined education that equips students for a wide variety of careers. The program is designed to: (1) encourage analysis of political theories, institutions, and processes within the broader context of the social sciences; (2) develop a continuing and responsible interest in political participation and public affairs; (3) provide the opportunity to acquire a fundamental understanding of political science as a basis for citizenship, a career in government or the private sector, or graduate study in various fields. The curriculum exposes students to various topics within Political Science while also allowing reasonable specialization in a student's area of interest.

Portuguese

The FIU Portuguese major develops students' ability to speak and write the language with fluency and proficiency, including classes on Luso-Brazilian culture, literature, cinema, business language, grammar, oral performance. The department also offers an optional Summer Study Abroad Program in Brazil to develop the student's language skills and cultural exposure, besides a minor and a certificate in Portuguese. Our Portuguese Program is a Celpe-Bras Proficiency Exam testing center accredited by the Brazil's Ministry of Education. Opportunities in the areas of business, diplomacy, government, tourism, education, media, international relations, can be part of students' future careers, either in Florida, the U.S.'s number one trade partner of Brazil, in the U.S. where a significant number of important Brazilian companies are based, or in the global marketplace.

Psychology - Industrial-Organizational Psychology

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology provides quality general education in the psychological sciences. The curriculum reflects current trends in the science, theory and practice of psychology. The Industrial-Organizational Psychology Track is designed for students who would like to gain a better understanding of the field of industrial organizational psychology. Industrial organizational psychology is the scientific study of working and the application of that science to workplace issues facing individuals, teams, and organizations. The required courses expose students to career possibilities in the field of I-O psychology and provide a basis for further study at the graduate level. Students who complete the I-O track will graduate well prepared to enter the workforce or to pursue an advanced degree. Public Relations Advertising and Applied Communications

The PRAAC degree allows students to create more of their own degree program, allowing them to take courses in both Public Relations and Advertising as well as other types of communication (public speaking, communication studies, and digital media). It is different from the previous tracks in Advertising and Public Relations in that it focuses more clearly and specifically on the skills and topics related to Public Relations, Advertising, and related communication fields. Students are given more freedom to build their own skillset while still ensuring that the core skills and knowledge are still a part of the program.

This degree explores a number of disciplines needed for developing and delivering effective content. Through analyzing communication campaigns in corporate and public media, students can develop and promote creative strategies and creative execution and employ effective and clear communication in this diverse and customizable program.

As a student, you will learn to develop critical thinking and strategic communication in both a local and global landscape. After graduation, you can find exciting opportunities in career fields such as content creation, communications specialists, public relations specialists, and much more.

Real Estate

Students who pursue a major in real estate are prepared to enter positions with financial institutions, commercial brokerage firms, mortgage companies, investment management entities, appraisal firms, property management companies and residential brokerage firms. Some students opt for entrepreneurial activities associated with the investment in management of real property. Graduates are able to understand the functions of real estate markets, practices, and institutions, understand the nature of the legal environment of real estate, appraise the real estate development opportunities in the commercial real estate markets for residential, warehouse, retail, and industrial properties, and solve specific problems or issues related to the analysis of real estate financing alternatives.

The Recreation and Sport Management undergraduate curriculum offers professional preparation programs designed to prepare students for employment in park, recreation, sport or recreational therapy delivery systems. The program is oriented toward direct services, supervisory, and management employment opportunities.
